Atlanta botanical gardens: Gardens for connoisseurs Atlanta private gardens tour 2012 Part One

706
Last weekend I had the opportunity to tour some of Atlanta’s premier gardens on the Atlanta Botanical Gardens Gardens for Connoisseurs Tour. The tour has been an Atlanta Mother’s Day tradition since 1984. This was my first tour and it was a lot of fun visiting private gardens all around the city. Here is what we saw!

Beautiful sculpture in the front yard. This house was so pretty and secluded. Loads of plant varieties.

554
St. Francis

569
Soothing sitting area with a lovely waterfall.

575
There were so many hydrangeas on the tour! Every shade. These pinkies were very pretty.

582
This evergreen foliage is so pretty edging the waterfall.

587
The residents’ adorable golden. “Who are all these people in my yard?”

At another house, this antique sundial is very pretty.

Probably my favorite house, owned by Lush Life owner Bill Hudgins. What amazing grounds and amazing nurseries!!

The vast nurseries are filled with everything from boxwoods and Japanese maples to succulents and bonsai trees.

665
Horsetail rush looks great in containers, and it’s best anyways as it can be extremely invasive. We’re definitely getting some next time we visit the fam in ‘bam.

667
So many interesting pottery pieces. These cranes are beautiful in the boxwood garden.

673
Love this patio area. I can only imagine what fun it would be to have a little soiree here.

Winding trails lead uphill to hidden gardens and sitting areas.

688
House entrance, so beautiful!

694
Who doesn’t have a moat around their house?

695

699
Say a little prayer as you cross the moat on giant slabs of rock.

705
Beautiful old bench covered in moss.

There were 11 houses on the tour and I took so many pictures I decided to break up the garden tour into several posts so stay tuned!
Be sure to check out Pink Girl’s reports on the tour as well!
Who else went on the tour? What garden is your favorite?
Have a bright night!
